Toledo - Imposing Medieval Fortress in Central Spain
Toledo is a city and municipality located in central Spain, about 70 kilometers south of Madrid. It is the capital of the province of Toledo and of the autonomous community of Castile-La Mancha. It was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1986, due to its extensive cultural and monumental heritage as one of the former capitals of the Spanish Empire and place of coexistence of Christian, Jewish and Moorish cultures.
A World Heritage Site, Toledo's old city inside the walls is an enchanting place. Its mosques, synagogues, churches and museums all remain as tribute to the city's history and its rulers. Its narrow cobblestone streets, plazas and inner patios offer new surprises around every corner.
