Sam's Exotic Travels to Nan Hong Lin Village, SW Shanxi Province, China

Nan Hong Lin Village is a small village of 30 families, located in the SW of Shanxi Province. We were fortunate to see what current village life is like in northern China - except for TV's and a few motorcycles, it is pretty much unchanged over the last 40-50 years.

Houses all have a kang (large bed heated by the fire from the stove used for cooking) which is adjacent, few if any houses had running water and toilets were outdoors. Corn, which is the stable crop, is also stored in bins and outdoors.

Despite the lack of modern conveniences, the villagers all seem content and happy in their village life.
