The Romance of Istanbul – Sam's Exotic Travels to Turkey's Historical City Straddling Two Continents

As the only city in the world located on two continents (Europe and Asia), Istanbul has had a long and distinguished history. Straddling the Bosphorus Straits and controlling ship traffic between the Black Sea to the North and the Aegean and Mediterranean Seas to the south, Istanbul’s strategic position has made it one of the world’s greatest cities.

With its history dating back to Byzantium times, it has served in turn as the capital of the Eastern Roman Empire, the Ottoman Empire and today as the capital and cultural heart of Turkey.

With a skyline studded with minarets and domes, Istanbul is one of the truly great romantic cities of the world. I hope my impressions of this beautiful city and its wonderful people do it justice.

All photos below are posted to Flickr!  Viewing albums on Flickr is a little tricky.  The easiest way is (1) open the set and then (2) choose Detail view  in the lower left corner.  This will open the set so you can see a larger thumbnail of each photo and its description.  If you do this, you can quickly view thumbnails and expand to see enlarged views for any and all pictures.  I would also appreciate any comments you might have and your vote for your favorite photos.
