Sam's Exotic Travels to Picturesque Halong Bay, Vietnam in The Gulf of Tonkin

Halong Bay, located on the coast of Vietnam in the Gulf of Tonkin is one of the most spectacular photographic sites in SE Asia. The Bay consists of almost 2,000 islands, topped with thick jungle vegetation rising spectacularly from the ocean. Some are home to Vietnamese fisherman, others contain enormous caves.  It is a World Heritage site, and one of Vietnam's most popular tourist destinations.

The Beauty of Halong Bay, Vietnam  Harbor view, Halong Bay, Vietnam  Ships and Halong Bay, Vietnam

You can tell that it is a popular place from the many tourist boats in the harbour and on the water.  It is crowded but magnificent.  I just wished we could have gone past the tourist ships and into the open waters.

  • Caves - There are many caves in the islands and rocks in Halong Bay.  We stopped in a harbor that had two.  Here are a few pictures.  I had rather been out seeing more of the beautiful scenery in the immense bay.

  • Cruise - Check out the pics.  What more can I say.  A very special place!

  • Harbor - We spent our night visiting Halong Bay in a small harbor - with shops, restaurants and a growing number of hotels and tour buses to cater to the many tourists.  I tried to capture the people who live on the boats and the rustic beauty of the harbor down past the tourist places, near the ferry that takes people to and from the small town on the opposite shore.
