Kathmandu's Durbar Square - The Heart of the Old City and a Living Museum of Nepal

Kathmandu's Hanuman-dhoka Durbar Square, with more than 50 temples and monuments packed into its compact area, is at the heart of the old city and top of the list of most people's sightseeing itineraries.  It is a complex of beautiful temples and shrines, both Hindu and Buddhist.  Most were built in the pagoda style embellished with intricatedly carved exteriors, constructed between the 12th and 18th centuries.  It is here that kings of Nepal were crowned and their coronations solemnized.  Until the early 20th century Durbar Square was the King's residence.  It is a living open museum of Nepal.

2006:
All photos below are posted to Flickr!  Viewing albums on Flickr is a little tricky.  The easiest way is (1) open the set and then (2) choose Detail view  in the lower left corner.  This will open the set so you can see a larger thumbnail of each photo and its description.  If you do this, you can quickly view thumbnails and expand to see enlarged views for any and all pictures.  I would also appreciate any comments you might have and your vote for your favorite photos.
