Sam's Impressions of Buenos Aires, Argentina
I really didn't know what to expect in Buenos Aires, but on getting around the city in the limited time we had available (3 days) I really liked the city, its culture and its people. The architecture was a lot like Europe, the extensive park system, the ease of transportation and the layout were pleasant surprises to me - much more user friendly and modern than Rio and the rest of Brazil - the only other comparison I had in SA. I was also impressed with the extensive street art (versus graffiti found throughout Europe), the impressive new harbour development area and the changing moods of the different barrios visited. It was a great place - and I hope you like my impressions. Buenos Aires (official name Autonomous City of Buenos Aires, also called Capital Federal) is the capital of the Argentine Republic. The name means fair winds in Spanish. It is one of the largest cities in Latin America, with a lot of cultural offerings, and is the point of departure for traveling to the rest of the country. Inhabitants of Buenos Aires are called porteņos, "people from the port". Buenos Aires is a singular, open and integrating destination that allows the visitor not only to view the city but also to have an exceptional urban adventure.
