Barcelona Spain - Historical and Colorful Capital of Catalonia
Located on the northeastern coast of Spain on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea, Barcelona is the second largest city in Spain in both size and population and the capital of Catalonia province. While Barcelona has had substantial growth dating back to the Industrial Revolution of the late 19th century, membership in the European Union (EU) has accelerated its growth and prosperity of its people. With a documented history of the city dating back to the founding of a Roman colony in the second century BC, it is a mecca for tourists rich in historical buildings and monuments; major art collections of modernists Pablo Picaso and Jean Miro, both long-time residents; the organic architecture of Antoni Gaudi, quaint streets; tapa bars and Mediterranean splendor.
